Job Summary: Responsible for reviewing visit notes, procedure reports, and edit associated facility charges as directed for the encounters assigned. Assists in verifying medical necessity for procedures ordered. Queries physician when existing documentation is unclear or ambiguous following AHIMA guidelines and established policy. Compile, maintain and support timely and accurate completion of the medical records. Confirms the eligibility, benefits, precertification and pre-collect for surgical patients. Pre-collections will include unpaid, true patient current balance, and patient's estimated financial responsibility for procedures. This position serves as liaison between patient, insurance company, physician and facility. The position involves a large volume calling patients and insurance companies. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must possess high school diploma or its equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical records/coding or health related field. Training in medical terminology, human anatomy and disease process preferred with LPN, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or must complete coding certification within 6 months of employment.
