Reconstructive Plastic Surgery & Hand Surgery

Reconstructive plastic surgery addresses facial and body abnormalities caused by birth defects, injury, disease, or aging. The team at Kimball Health Services is led by Dr. William Wyatt, who excels in plastic and reconstructive procedures as well as hand surgery. He is board-certified in plastics, reconstruction, hand surgery/microsurgery, and wound care along with his training as a general surgeon.

The reconstructive procedure improves body function and appearance. Some standard reconstructive procedures include breast reconstruction and reduction, facial reconstruction, and hand surgery.

Hand surgery improves strength and flexibility and fixes damage caused by injuries and various hand conditions. Hand surgery treats diseases that cause pain and impair your wrist and fingers' strength, function, and flexibility.

Dr. Wyatt has extensive experience in treating hand injuries, amputations, breast reconstructions, pediatric surgeries, complex wounds, dog bites, and other medical conditions.

Facial Trauma

Facial trauma occurs when injuries affect the soft tissues, underlying bones, or nerves of the face and jaw. These injuries that may result from burns, trauma, cancer surgery, or illness can have a profound effect on the appearance and functionality of your face.

Facing facial trauma can be an emotionally challenging experience. Along with the appearance of your face, crucial functions, like blinking, smiling, talking, and eating, can also be significantly affected by facial trauma.

The treatment of facial trauma focuses on the restoration of function and the appearance of the face. Typically, the treatment involves surgical intervention.

Facial trauma treatment includes procedures ranging from primary wound closure to more complex interventions like skin grafts, flaps, and bony fracture repair. The specific surgical approaches and techniques depend upon the severity and location of the trauma.

Given the sensitivity and emotional toll of such injuries, early evaluation and prompt treatment are crucial for favorable outcomes. At Kimball Health Services, we provide surgical assistance to treat facial injuries and deformities.

Dog Bites

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), one in every five dog bites results in an injury that requires medical attention. Kids are more vulnerable to getting hurt by a dog bite.

Dog bites can cause infections and might need antibiotic treatment. In some cases, the bites can be deep enough to cause damage to muscles, tendons, nerves, or even bones. Severe cases might need surgical intervention.

Tumors

A tumor is a solid mass of abnormal cells that develops in the body. Not all tumors are cancerous and a majority are benign. Tumor growth can appear in various parts of the body, affecting bones, skin, tissues, glands, and organs.

Usually, benign tumors don't require treatment. However, sometimes, they may grow and exert pressure on surrounding healthy tissue, potentially impacting functions like vision or speech. In such cases, surgical removal might be recommended.

Radial Tunnel Syndrome

Radial tunnel syndrome occurs when the radial nerve is compressed or pinched, causing pain in the top of your forearm and hand. The nerve travels from the side of the neck and passes through the radial tunnel at the elbow - compression within this tunnel results in radial tunnel syndrome.

Unwanted pressure on the radial nerve is often triggered by injury and inflammation in the surrounding tissue, leading to pain in the forearm and the back of the hand.

Factors such as non-cancerous fatty tumors (lipomas) and bone tumors can also cause radial tunnel syndrome. Intense pain while straightening your wrist and fingers is a common symptom.

Treatment for radial tunnel syndrome involves a combination of non-surgical and surgical approaches depending on the severity of your condition.

Epicondylitis

Epicondylitis is a condition that occurs due to the inflammation of the tendons in the elbow that regulates wrist movement. Tendons are strong tissues that link muscles to bones.

Lateral epicondylitis, or tennis elbow, involves swelling of the tendons that control the backward movement of the wrist, away from the palm. Medial epicondylitis, known as golfer's elbow, is caused by damage to the tendons that bend the wrist toward the palm.

Most cases of epicondylitis improve with medication and therapies like corticosteroid injections and splinting. Surgery is considered if these measures prove ineffective.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint condition that occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of bones wears down over time.

OA is the most common type of arthritis that significantly impacts your quality of life due to the pain and stiffness it causes. Osteoarthritis is commonly seen in the hand, knees, and hip joints.

Medication, physiotherapy, and, in some cases, surgical procedures can help alleviate the pain and discomfort and preserve joint mobility.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) occurs from increased pressure on the median nerve at the wrist, affecting sensation and movement in your hand. When compressed, the median nerve can cause pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or even muscle damage in the hand and fingers.

CTS is the most common form of entrapment neuropathy, where peripheral nerves are compressed or squeezed. In the United States, CTS affects 1–5% of the population, with a higher incidence in females. It can impact one or both wrists.

Without proper treatment, CTS can significantly impact your life, causing severe damage to the median nerve. This can result in permanent numbness and lasting weakness in affected muscles.

At Kimball Health Services, we offer personalized diagnostic care and both non-surgical and surgical treatments for your condition. If you're experiencing pain in your wrist, schedule an appointment for comprehensive and tailored care.
